Testimonials

Here is a sampling of the emails we have recieved regarding the Hobbit Hole knives and other items sent by the Hobbit Hole members.

December 4, 2006

Your Hobbit Hole knife is one of the finest knives I’ve had the pleasure of owning. I’m honored to be able to support your efforts to supply our troops with such excellent equipment.

I received the knife and Surefire flashlight you sent me, they are awesome. I put them to good use the very next day. Thanks to you and your organization for all that you’re doing for all the service members over here. We all appreciate what all of you all are doing for us. These are great products for a good cause. Thanks again

I would like to thank you all for any support that has been rendered during our time at war. Our freedom and the freedom of the Afghanistan nation is our overall mission, your support of us as soldiers makes our mission that much more bearable.

I want to thank you all so much for your help and support. I’m sure you have quite a few veterans working in support of these efforts and my thanks goes to them as well for their hard work before me in supporting our countries war efforts. Even if you can’t help, I want to thank you guys again for all of your efforts! This is a great project and a great help to all service men and women serving overseas.

I would like to thank you for all your support you are giving to the deployed solders here in Iraq and Afghanistan.  All the letters, cards and items from home help to make everyday just a little bit brighter.  The knifes you send to my guys here have brought a smile to each and every one of them. Thank you for support and keep up the good work.

This is a wonderful service, and you must be people with a heart for the military.  I would like to thank you for all you have done and still doing.  I saw on your home page the numbers of products which you have given away.  It really touches me to know there are people like you and everyone that works with you.

I think what your doing is a great thing, and definitely motivating.

I thank you for your support. Being in Iraq, we hear about a lot of negative news reporting, so we tend to forget about the people back home that support what we are trying to accomplish. I and everyone else I work with definitely appreciate the thought put into ideas like this. Not to mention, these knives may be the difference between life and death if it ever came down to it. Semper Fi!

I received an e-mail containing your website and I visited the site a while ago and thought “that this was the probably the most useful, practical and supportive way of letting the American military know that there are people out there that are behind them through thick and thin.” Thank you for your support.

I can not begin to express my gratitude to all of you enough.  Your kindness and generosity is only overshadowed by the appreciation of my Marines to receive more weapons to take into the fight.  Nothing says “I love you” to a Marine more than the gift of a fighting knife or tool.  It’s tangible and it means a hell of a lot.  Thanks.

God Bless and Semper Fi.

I would like to begin by saying thank you for what you do.  It is so very rare nowadays to find a group of people who care about what we as soldiers do.  Your unwavering support is a true testament to what our great country stands for.

You know, as a part of my job I need to know what is going on in the world. Often that involves watching the news.  I must be honest, it is quite disheartening sometimes.  We (military members) get to see an awful lot of our fellow Americans who just don’t care, or worse,  use our fallen Brothers as some kind of reinforcement to their cause.

I can’t speak for all of us, but I know that most of us do what we do because we LOVE our country, and right or wrong she is Ours.  We love being Americans and we love anyone who calls themselves American.

Sometimes there is so much negativity towards us and what we do, that it makes us wonder if what we do really matters.  I thank you not for the knife.  I thank you for being an American that cares about us just as we care about you, our countryman, our brother.  So on behalf of those I know in the Profession-of-Arms, Thank You!

God bless America, God bless Our war fighters, and God bless people like you and your friends.

I was reading through your website and some blogs too and got some chuckles regarding care packages of candy being sent to us deployed troops.  I received boxes and boxes of starbursts, M&Ms, snickers…you name it while deployed to Kirkuk Air Base Iraq and the support and good will was certainly felt; especially in the waist. I was expecting to shed weight being in the blistering Iraqi sun, but rather I gained about 12 pounds in roughly five months.  Anyway, the food was great, but your team’s efforts with sending knives takes care packaging to a whole new level - what a fantastic idea.

I know you don’t need to hear it, but I must say that this is a wonderful thing that you folks are doing.  I wish more Americans understood that you don’t have to be on the front lines to serve this great nation.  We appreciate your support. Thank you and God bless you all.

Me and My men would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for what you do. It is very satisfying to know that at least there are some people who support what we do.

March 12, 2006

As a soldier it is hard to find people that show their support with more than a yard sign, or a magnet on the back of their car.

I am going to tell everyone I can about how you are supporting soldier, and I want you to know that you are an example to all other who say they support thier troops. Thanks a Million!

February 26, 2006

I think what you are doing here is very generous and does, and hopefully will continue to do, a lot of military members a lot of good.  I’m sure you are very aware that the military does not always provide everything that its personnel may need.  There have been many times when I thought that if I only had this, or only had that, things would be much easier.  A knife would definitely be one of those items.

Mark

February 22, 2006

If you are able to help, thank you; if you are not, thank you for your support to our troops! We need more organizations to support our troops to counter all of the people who do not know what price is paid to provide their freedom to voice their opinions!!

William

February 12, 2006

There is nothing more invigorating than the spirit of a dedicated group of Americans such as yourselves! There just aren’t enough people left in this world that are as giving and unselfish.  Thank you for the unique Idea!

Hats off to you Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think what you guys are doing is awesome. Finally some people out there that respect what we are doing over here.

Thanks for your hard work on recognizing us and good luck in the future.

February 2, 2006

Thank you for your support for and all that you do for us who are on the front lines.  I just heard of your organization a couple of days ago, and thought it was probably too good to be true.  With all the negative out there, you are a refreshing bunch.

Thank you and your organization for the support you are giving all of us. It is citizens like you that make our country great!

January 17, 2006

I like the fact that you are doing it for everyone and anyone active duty. I will send out an email to everyone on my list and I hope that you keep receiving the support that you need to keep the program running. We wouldn’t be able to get through these deployments with out the support of men and women like yourselves. Thank you for you time and effort.—Jim

January 6, 2006

Dear all who support the troops,

Thank you for giving even just a small token of yourselves, your hearts and your support of the troops. By you all providing such an awesome gift, such as a simple thank you, and by the act of donating knives to the awesome men and women who serve these United States. You in turn are serving with us by your support and kindness. You are helping to enhance the moral and attitudes of our soldiers and Marines of all ranks, ages and gender. For this, you are commended and I personally will never forget your generosity, in such desperate times as this. For we are Americans helping Americans each in his and her own way. One on the battle field and another perhaps in an office or even McDonalds . In conclusion I am humbled and honored to go into battle with a knife forged from: LOYALTY, DUTY, RESPECT, SELFLESS SERVICE, HONOR, INTEGRITY, AND PERSONAL COURAGE. All in which you have shown . Thank you

November 8, 2005

Just a quick note to say thanks, I really appreciate your help. You guys are absolutely wonderful and I hope, as I told 300winmag, that you are very appreciated. You all have started a wonderful thing, and nothing makes a soldier happier than all the tools and equipment that will make him feel comfortable in his ability to better protect himself and others. Thank you again.

October 21, 2005

I received my Gerber LMF II aircrew knife today, just in time for my deployment to Afghanistan. It is ten times the knife compared to the standard issue Army blade I now carry on my flight vest. I hope I never have to test its capabilities though I have no doubt it would pass with flying colors. THANK YOU very much for letting me carry it and the reassurance that goes with it. You should be very proud of the great work your group is doing. Thank you for your support.

October 2, 2005

I received you knife in the mail yesterday. I feel compelled to respond and thank you for such a wonderful gift. I was impressed with the quality of the knife (Camillus BK3). I have proudly added it to my basic combat load while here in Iraq. I am more impressed with you and your company. Many people say that they support the troops that are deployed in combat, however, for many they are merely words. You have gone the extra mile and have proven your support and thus have won many customers of your fine product in the future.

August 15, 2005

I received the BK2 knife today. I cannot thank you enough for this. As an AH-64 Apache pilot, I am required to carry a survival knife, something that would be able to break myself out of the cockpit if it became necessary to through the glass. This knife is far better than what they have for us to use, and my level of comfort greatly has increased knowing this will be on
my vest for that as well as anything else I may encounter. Thank you for your support, as I have never before seen this great magnitude of support by anybody else at any time. On behalf of all soldiers who have received these knives, I know I can speak for them that our appreciation could not be expressed enough through mere words. You should all be proud of what you do, and the difference that it makes to us as we go to the big sandboxes. Thank you again.

August 3, 2005

Thank you very much for what you are doing. Our unit never received bayonets and my Gerber tool had already broken. So having a knife will help out a lot.

I hate to seem selfish, but this is the best care package I will ever receive. I had sent out a letter to my family and friends asking them not to send the everyday goods that we always get and politely told them what I needed, but I got a few hateful emails and lost some friends along the way all because I have about 120 cans of tuna fish and 2 boxes of socks and underwear underneath my bunk.

Thank you so much for what you are doing for all of us.

August 3, 2005

I just got done looking through the new website and it’s great. I read through the ‘Renegade Chaplain’ project and as always my heart was warmed with gratefulness. You and the wonderful Hobbit Hole dwellers will never understand what your support meant to the Renegades. It’s incredible to see how many knives (in addition to the numerous other items) that the Hobbit Hole has provided for soldiers. It’s awesome!

Tell everyone hello from the Rengade Chaplain! Though I’m not serving with the Renegades any longer, as someone told me before I left, “Chaplain, you’ll always be a Renegade!”

Blessings,

Renegade Chaplain

August 2, 2005

I just thought that this might interest you. My entire unit has now returned safe and sound, with NO losses I might add. I just want to thank all of you that kept me company and gave me and my guys support throughout the deployment. You will all be remembered fondly and I hope to hear from you again. Thanks again.

August 1, 2005

I recieved your knife today and wanted to drop a quick line. I honestly expected something that was cheaply built, but fun to have. Not this knife. It’s totally utilitarian, just the way it should be. Nothing on it to break or fail if it gets abused, and it’s heavy enough to get through a damn car door. The butt end is absolutly perfect. You could easily knock someone on thier *$$ with it. Thanks much for the tool and for all that you guys are doing for the good guys.

July 30, 2005

I can’t explain to you the gratitude of my men and me for what ya’ll have done. Again, thank you. I really enjoy wearing the knife that you sent me. I’ll be honest, its the third I’ve worn here. I quit wearing the others due to comfort or akwardness of the knife. I forget I have a knife on when I wear the one you sent. Its definately a spectacular peice of equipment.

July 29, 2005

Thank you for your assistance with this. I am a 1SG of an infantry company in a busy area. Myself and my soldiers constantly patrol and deal with “issues” daily and a good knife is an important tool. Thank you for your support of my troops and others like them. 1SG Michael

July 28, 2005

Thanks for sending my son a knife. Whichever knife you are able to send will be greatly appreciated, as I know Brian will enjoy it.

Thanks to you and your team for the support you are giving our troops!

July 27, 2005

I recently found out about your organization. It makes me feel really good to know there are people out there who care about us and the equipment we carry. I can’t express the amount of gratitude I felt when i found out about your organization. Many of us are junior enlisted, and just can’t afford a quality knife (which tends to be essential in our environment). I am an infantryman fulfilling a combat medic/shooter role because of civilian paramedic training. I was hoping I could get a few knives for the guys in my team if it isn’t too much of a burden. Check out my blog to see what we have been doing here, we are doing a good job of training the Iraqi soldiers if I may toot my own horn!

July 26, 2005

I am currently stationed at Camp Liberty in Baghdad, Iraq with the U.S. Army. I have been seeing all these sharp new knives coming in the mail to fellow soldiers. I asked about them after seeing them and couldn’t believe they told me that they had recieved them as free donations from you. I am writing to ask and see if it would be possible to get ahold of one of your knives. God Bless you guys for your generosity!!

July 24, 2005

So, I was preparing for a mission like any other day and one of my platoon-mates happen to be sporting a new toy. I asked what type of knife it was and he said with a big smile on his face, “the Becker companion.” He went on to tell me the story of The Hobbit Hole and all the great work you folks are doing for us troops. Well, I hope I’m not too late to be privileged and receive a gift or two from The Hobbit Hole. I am a recent converted fan of the knife as weapon and companion since my deployment to Iraq. Being in 1st platoon Bravo Co. 3-156, an Infantry Unit, you see a lot of knives used and broken because of use. We believe in knives in 1st Platoon and to be apart of what The Hobbit Hole is doing is a privilege.

July 21, 2005

Good news spreads fast. I saw the Gerber LMF 2 that you sent one our troops here in Boise Id. We are currently on orders to deploy to Afghanistan. I know that you are probably getting pretty popular. As an E-7 in the quality control section of 1-183 Aviation, I will be going on downed aircraft recovery mission inside of Afghanistan. The Gerber LMF 2 would be an excellent tool to have in that kind of environment. If you have any left or expect to get more or something as tough and functional, I would defiantly be able to test its durability. I would certainly write a letter about how it worked for me when we return on 07. If you don’t have anything left, that would be OK. I believe you are doing a great service by providing deploying troops with valuable tools where they are needed. Thank you for your support for our guys here in Boise and those troops deployed overseas.

July 18, 2005

Thank You for your support of the troops. It may not seem like a lot but it IS.

Sincerely,
SFC Jeffrey

July 18, 2005

I’m a infrantry soldier currently serving in Iraq. I conduct combat patrols thru the streets of Baghdad on a daily bases. One thing that we take pride in as an infrantry soldier is our tools to do our trade. In the past it’s been hard to find the perfect knife ,that is multifunctional. But after seeing a fellow infrantry mans knife and it being put to the test, i realized that is a perfect knife for me. I’m refering to the CQB 1SG. He stated that he had emailed you and you sent him one for free, plus free engraving. So I’m asking you if you could do the same for me. I’m a platoon sergeant that needs a dependable knife for many uses. A great fighting knife is always a plus, but i have other needs for the knife also. One that can pry open doors on breached entries, cut seat belts and straps free to help my soldiers escape from their hummer after being hit with a car bomb, and ect. your particular knife has shown me in many instances that it if worthy of being carried and used by a man of my stature. You know as a platoon sergeant I must look and be fully capable to conduct my job in order to give my subordinates the upmost belief that we are able to accomplish any task at hand.

Thanks for your donations and support for all the troops. It’s people like you that make it so great to serve our country and ensuring freedom world wide.

July 13, 2005

Thanks for the prayers and I appriciate the help you guys provide. I’ll send some pics of the guys you have already helped out in our unit.

July 13, 2005

I’m in Iraq and was told by some of the guys about you and saw some of the knifes you sent and just wanted to say thank you. Not only did you put something into there hands they can use but you show them much more. Thank you again.

July 12, 2005

My BN Commander gave me your email address and bragged about the high quality of knives your sending soldiers. Let me first say that I’ve read your reasons for sending the knives and I agree that they will remain long after the salsa and sun block is gone. I really appreciate what your are doing and would like to to ask for an LMF II for myself, First Sergeant, and Executive Officer. Many of my “Joe’s” have received your knives and they really like them. I wanted to get these two outstanding individuals something for their hard work and these knives would be perfect. We are defending freedom in (OIF III).

Thank you again, I plan to post a donation to your cause.

July 11, 2005

I am a crew chief on the AH-64A helicopter. In speaking with my buddy who is also on the DART team (downed aircraft recovery team) he mentioned that you have a special knife for extrication of a pilot. If possible I would like to be a recipient of one of these.

I think you have a million dollar idea here to support troops. I recently heard of a National broadcast talk show host Glenn Beck, that did something very similar with Camelbaks’ hydration systems. My unit supplied mine for me but I understand that not all troops over there are as fortunate. Being in aviation some of the more finer things to be had are more readily available. Of course we are officer heavy…..wink wink ha ha ha

I think this is an awesome project. It not only helps with much needed equipment, but augments the cost for the already struggling troop to make ends meet.

July 11, 2005

I am an Apache pilot with a unit in Idaho that is getting ready to deploy to Afghanistan. I was made aware of your efforts and your website by a fellow pilot who excitedly came into the office last week to show off his new knife. It was the Gerber LMF II and it was amazing. I have been shopping around for a knife to take with me on deployment and hadn’t really seen anything that I really liked until I saw his. I especially like the butt of the knife that seems to be made specifically for cockpit breakout capability.

If at all possible, I was wondering if you might be able to send me a knife. I would really like the Gerber, but I understand that you may not have it available. My friend said that he received his knife free of charge and though that would be nice, I would be willing to pay you if necessary.

Even if you cannot send me a knife, I would still like to take this opportunity to thank you for your support of the troops everywhere. It’s people like you that make our job worth all the sacrifices.

July 9, 2005

One of my First Sergeants and my Command Sergeant Major told me about how your organization supports the front line soldiers deployed around the world. I would just like to thank each and every one of you for this superb gesture of support to the soldiers here in Iraq that are on the front lines fighting in close combat with the ememies of the United States.

I am the commander of Task Force Bandit composed of Infantry and Cavalry Scouts patrolling some of the toughest areas in Baghdad. We have been here almost a year now and we are looking forward to getting back home to the Great USA soon. There are a lot of soldiers over here but very few venture out of the Forward Operating Base to do thier jobs like the combat soldiers. All the soldiers get the same pay and incentives for being here but not all engage in close combat with the enemy on a daily basis. I do not mean to belittle the work that the majority of the support soldiers conduct because it is important but very few are ever exposed to the IEDs, Car Bombs, Sniper Fire, RPG attacks, Grenade attacks, Small Arms Fire, rendering first aid to the wounded local nationals, cuting yourself out of a HUMMWV upside down and underwater in a canal, and all the other things that the combat soldiers must be prepared to deal with on a regular basis working 12-16 hour days almost ever
y day of the week. I have seen these soldiers in combat and they impress the hell out of me every day and I am extremely proud of their work here. They are true professionals and it is a privilege and honor to serve with these fine soldiers.

Thank You for recognizing this fine group for the hard work that they do and that many have been wounded or killed while giving their best.

July 8, 2005

I am currently a crew chief on the Apache helicopter, and am also qualified (secondary MOS) as a crew chief for the Black Hawk. A co-worker and lieutenant of mine led me to this sight. I was wondering exactly what “the deal” is. They said it was a website supporting people deployed or going to deploy overseas to the big sandbox. I think that what you are doing is very worthwhile and is a lasting impression of thanks. My unit is rumored to be heading off to Afghanistan in a few months. From the latest info, we may be located at some remote and just plain “yucky” fire bases around the country. So to come about a website that shows what ordinary people are doing to “help ease the pain” to those away from their families is just humbling. Thanks, Dan

July 2, 2005

The Hobbit Hole,

First I would like to say thank you for the support that you have shown to the Infantry troops. The practicality of the gift packages is by far that of the most sense anything has made to me since I’ve been in this country. I wish I could take a picture of every Joe’s face when they receive your package. I would have to say that, hands down, it is the highlight of their deployment.

I am sure you have heard from quite a few Bravo Company 3-156INF soldiers. My stories are the same as theirs: We’ve detained multiple “bad guys”, kicked in doors, searched lots of houses, been shot at(small arms & sniper), received blasts from IED’s, had RPG’s fired at us, killed Iraqi’s(civilian & terrorists), lost friends on the battlefield, and have friends recovering in hospitals. All of our stories are the same because we’ve been through it together. When my guys receive their packages from you, it seems as though all the troubles in the world are gone, their faces light up like kids on Christmas Day. It is completely spectacular how you make them feel. And of course like all Infantrymen, they have to show their new “toys” off to each other, and explain, in detail, how they are going to use it.

Thank you for what you have done for my troops.

July 2, 2005

I’m part of the 256 BCT with B. Co. 3/156th Infantry out of Louisiana. That should tell you all you need to know, haha.

Well as you probably already know I’m currently serving in Iraq. I have heard nothing but good things from my guys about you people. I guess there is no need in beating around the bush.

I would like to express interest in some of your products. The first being the “Tactool”. Being one of the larger guys in the platoon I am called upon to “breach” quite a few doors. Sure we have tools for the platoon but we work on a strict timetable, meaning I may not have time to wait. I feel that your tool would be extremely useful in those situations.

Secondly I must say that the “Campanion” is a very nice looking blade and would draw a lot of attention hanging from my combat vest. Those two items would really be appreciated and used if put in my possesion. Now I’d be lieing if I said that I wouldn’t like to own a state of the art fighting knife like the CQB1SG and what soldier would be complete without a good folding knife, haha.

Beyond the favors that I have asked of you I would truly like to say thank you for all that you do. It really means alot to a soldier when others get involved. There are a lot of people from the states who claim to “support the troops” but there are few
groups who actually do anything to back that up. Coming from an NCO I know it takes sacrafices to “take care of your men”. Sometimes they aren’t big sacrafices but you still have to do without in order to make sure they are taken care of as best as
possible. In my eyes this group is doing a great job of taking care of us so again I say thanks.

Last little bit I promise. You all have done so much for us, is there anything we can do for you? If you can think of any task just let me know and I’ll personally do all that I can to make sure it happens.

Thanks

June 28, 2005

Hi, I heard about your organization through a friend and I had to check it out. I’m currently serving in an infantry unit in central baghdad. I can’t even begin the tell you how wonderfull your idea is. Everyone here gets care packages with a bunch of stuff that we already have or won’t use. But the idea of giving away a knife, something that EVERYONE will instantly love and appreciate is so awesome. I would like to request some knives if I may. The BK3 tactool, BK3 companion, and CRKT 5700 would be great. I know a few guys in my company that aren’t doing to great on money and can’t afford a good knife that would love some of these. Whatever you could send would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time and keep up the good work!

June 27, 2005

A fellow NCO in my platoon recently received a BK TacTool from you. I have been looking for one for quite some time. They come in handy for prying open closet and cabinet drawers while on house searches here in Baghdad, especially when the Halligan tool is too bulky for the same operations. I am wondering how I may request one of these knives and a BK Companion from you?

BTW, this is a helluva nice thing you are doing for the Troops.

Very Respectfully,

Les

June 24, 2005

I just read a Weblog on your many projects and commend you all. My Battalion is beginning preparations for our deployment to Afghanistan. I’m not sure how your operation works or what the criteria are but thought I’d check in with you. We are an Apache Battalion and will soon be flying missions in Afghanistan. Regardless whether or not that qualifies us for one of your knives I would like to say thank you for the support you have shown to the men and women of the United States Military.

June 24, 2005

Hello, my name is SGT Brian. A couple of guys in my company have received knives from you all and I just wanted to let you know that it means a lot to me to know that people like you truly support us. It is really hard here sometimes, just yesterday I watched my friend get shot by a sniper right next to me. By the grace of God it looks like he will be fine, he has pulled through his first surgery looking good. People like you, doing what you all do, help us get through these hard times because it reminds us why we fight and what we are fighting for. I am a fire team leader in an infantry company with four guys under me, four true soldiers. If you have anything laying around that they could use, it would be really nice. Tools and weapons are something that we as infantryman can never have enough of. Thank you again for your support…
Brian

June 8, 2005

I am a Infantryman serving on the front lines here in Iraq and some of my fellow soldiers have received the CQB3 Camillus knife from you and man are they are well done. I was wondering if it would be possible to get one of these great knives from you. I would like to thank you for supporting my soldiers here in Iraq.

May 21, 2005

Dear Hobbit Hole,

We have received our knives. They are great. My squad carries them on every mission with pride. Thank you dont even come close to the graditude we have. It means so much my squad to have received one of your knives. Patrolling in the city, we find many uses for them.

Just remember there is a squad of 11B in Iraq that is very thankful for your service and will never forget you.

February 10, 2005

I just wanted to say thanks for all that you are doing for the troops. I’m on the front lines in Iraq. My First Sergent got a knife in the mail and it had the internet address on it so he told me to check it out and see what it was about. It is a great thing that you guys and gals are doing for the troops. I am sure all the people gettin stuff from you guys are very thankful. Well, I have to go search for some knifes and stuff that Infantry guys like. Thanks for your time, Spc. Gregorie

December 8, 2004

I stumbled upon your site while doing some research on Iraq. I’m a Lt in the Air Force and am about 70% sure that I’ll be deploying to Iraq next month during my alert cycle. In the meantime, I’m gearin’ up and am trying to figure out what exactly to put in my mobility bags. Are the CRKT knives still available for a 1st timer like me?

Whether you can offer one or not, I can’t help but admire the time and resources you commit in lending your support to deployed troops around the world. It’s hard for me to imagine the true level appreciation they must have for your efforts when your packages arrive…Keep up the incredible work!

October 23, 2004

Thank you very much for the folding knife you sent me a few months back. I’m sorry its taken me this long to thank you, but as you may imagine, we get a bit busy here in Baghdad. I have carried the knife every day since I got it; the clip style works very well with the DCUs.

You are doing a great service for us soldiers over here in Iraq. Not only is the knife handy, just getting mail is a bonus. Every soldier loves to get mail.

Very respectfully,

CPT Steven

Dear Hobbit Hole

I just wanted to write a short note thanking you for the thoughtful gift of the CRKT knives to me and my fellow soldiers of the xxx EN BDE S4 shop.

These folks have worked hard over the last 7 months to make a difference and it means a lot to them to know that have continued support back home. We have only the news which is not always positive.

These men and women are Reservists so they have left behind family and jobs and the life they knew to serve their country. Thanks again for the great knives and support.

Yours in Service, Charles

Thanks a lot. I know the guys will really appreciate the knives. It will be something they can keep for the rest of their lives to remember this deployment. We are making some headway here and trying to support the Iraqi National Guard and Security Forces protect their interests. There are still the stubborn IZ that don’t want Democracy to take hold, but the process is already in motion. All good things come in time. Thanks again.

My name is Charles and I am stationed in Iraq with the US Army. I have been here over six months and happened upon a fellow soldier that proudly showed his treasured knife that he received. I too would be honored to own such a knife but more important would like to reward some of the troops here with them. They have worked hard and deserve more than I can ever repay. Anything that you can provide would be greatly appreciated. If this is too much to ask, I do understand. Over half of these fine soldiers have served our country through 2 wars, two dating back to Vietnam.

Thanks again for honoring the soldiers that serve. We greatly appreciate the support.

I am Lcpl RT X I recently received a knife donated by yourorganization. I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the good piece of gear and your support of all of the Marines and service members out there on
the front line. There are not enough good people like you out there.

Thanks from Baghdad, Iraq

[300Winmag], IT GOES WITHOUT SAYING THAT ALL HERE WHO HAVE BEEN TOUCHED BY YOU AND YOUR ORGANIZATIONS THOUGHTS AND EFFORTS APPRECIATE WHAT YOU DO FOR US. IT IS HARD ENOUGH BEING AWAY FROM FAMILY AND FRIENDS BUT TO HAVE A TOTAL STRANGER REACH OUT AND TOUCH US MEANS SO MUCH. THANKS FOR ALL FROM ALL!

I HAVE HAD SEVERAL REQUESTS FROM THE GUYS HERE FOR SCRUB BRUSHES. NOT FOR FLOORS OR ANYTHING LIKE THAT BUT TO CLEANS PERSONAL GEAR AND EQUIPMENT. HAND BRUSHES OR POT BRUSHES WOULD BE MOST WELCOME. WE HAVE RECEIVED POPCORN OIL WITH COCONUT OIL MIXED IN. I THINK THAT WILL DO FOR US SO YOU CAN CONCENTRATE ON OTHER ENDEAVORS.

THE ATTITUDES HERE ARE VERY POSITIVE. THE GUYS AND GALS OF THE ARMED SERVICES ARE AWESOME. I AM AMAZED EACH DAY AT THE PROFESSIONALISM AND CAN DO SPIRIT THAT IS DISPLAYED ON A REGULAR BASIS. ALL AMERICANS SHOULD BE PROUD OF THEIR FAVORITE SONS AND DAUGHTERS AS THEY SHOW THAT WE AS A PEOPLE CARE ABOUT OTHERS AND ARE WELLING TO PUT OUR LIVES AND POCKETBOOKS IN JEOPARDY TO PROVE IT. GOD BLESS THEM ALL.

SAY HELLO TO [Wneighbor] FOR ME AND GIVE YOURSELF A PAT ON THE BACK. YOU ARE MAKING A DIFFERENCE.

AGAIN, THANK YOU FROM ALL AT CAMP L. JERRY

[This is from a USAF Master Sergeant, currently stationed in a country that cannot be named.]

A couple people over here noticed the knife you gave me, and wanted to know how they might go about getting one? Or a few to pass out to deserving young troops?

If you can get me four, that’d be great: one each for Airman, NCO, Sr NCO and Jr Officer of the Month Award winners.

Thank you. And send thanks to the rest of the Hobbit Hole gang.

Winmag writes: "Now that I think of it, our Hobbit Hole knives are both aptly designed, and named. Small, unassuming, often unnoticed. Yet they have a hidden strength, and can perform mighty deeds when called upon.

We give them out as simple tokens of appreciation, like a handshake. Yet our finest fighting forces consider them awards to be given out for special achievements."

Subject: Thank You

I would really like to thank you and yours for the superb knives and scissors, we have given all of the scissors to the medics and they actually loved them I was able to give a pair to Specialist Chin and it was actually on her birthday she was very flattered and thankful.

As for the knives we had a mortar attack at the airport, and one of my Marines grabbed his Combat life saver kit and he was able to use it and his Hobbit Hole knife which he was given that morning in recognition of outstanding performance of duty, he obviously used it in the way you intended because he is being recognized for actually saving a soldier from serious injury and assisting in stabilizing another wounded female soldier.

Coincidentally we looked at the knives and have been giving them out as awards for superior service and I assure you that everyone wants one now! It’s like the Army coin thing only cooler!

I hope you know we really appreciate what you are doing for us, It takes true patriotism to stand up for the troops in light of everything else you hear, God Bless you all and God Bless America!

Thanks for the wonderful note, Colonel. I’ve sent a bunch more knives recently, and I’ll send some more this week. I’m also awaiting some Israeli bandages, which will go to your people.

Your story makes life number four that has been saved by one of these knives, that we know about. They were always intended just to give humble but dependable service, with no heroics involved.

The knives were also intended for any GI, even desk jockeys. The fact that they are seen as honors is beyond our wildest expectations for these simple items. We are both awed and humbled by praise like that.

Thanks again for the note, and we will continue to stuff into the mailbox anything we can think of to show our appreciation for you, your troops, and everyone else involved in this vital enterprise.

GREETINGS FROM DJIBOUTI AFRICA. ALL IS WELL HERE AT CAMP LEMONIER AND I AM LOOKING FORWARD TO MY FIRST R&R STARTING NEXT SUNDAY. I WANT TO THANK YOU AND YOUR GROUP FOR THE BOXES OF JOY THAT YOU SENT TO US AND WANT TO ADVISE YOU AS TO THE RECEPTION AND DISPERSAL OF THEM.

I SHARED OVER THE COUNTER THE SNACK CAKES AND CANDIES IN THE PACKAGES WITH WHOMEVER WALKED UP AND SAW THEM. ALTHOUGH WE HAVE A PX HERE THE SELECTION IS RATHER LIMITED AND THE TREATS YOU SENT WERE LOOKED AT LIKE MANNA FROM HEAVEN. THE CHIPS I GAVE TO SELECTED UNITS SUCH AS THE RAPID REACTION FORCE THAT SITS IN A TENT FOR 12 HOURS A DAY WAITING FOR AN INCIDENT TO HAPPEN THAT WOULD REQUIRE THEIR TALENTS. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN NEEDED SO FAR THANK THE LORD BUT THE SNACKS BROKE THEIR BOREDOM AND WERE APPRECIATED GREATLY. THE CHEESE BALLS WENT TO A BIBLE STUDY GROUP THAT MEETS WEEKLY IN THE CHAPEL AND TO THEIR SURPRISE THE HOBBIT HOLE GAVE THEM SOMETHING TO BE THANKFUL FOR ABOVE THE NORM.

LASTLY I INCLUDED THE BAG OF SNACK MIX ALONG WITH THE WEEKLY MOVIE FOR KBR EMPLOYEES IN OUR DINING FACILITY WHERE IT WAS ENJOYED AND TALKED ABOUT FOR DAYS. OUR CAMP MANAGER ASKED ME TO FIND OUT THE SPELLING OF THE SNACK MIX SO HE CAN ORDER IT FOR HIS FUTURE USE AND SO I ASK IF YOU, OR ONE OF YOU THERE COULD GIVE ME THE CORRECT SPELLING OF THE (GARADENTOS SNACK MIX ?) THAT YOU SENT. I WOULD APPRECIATE THIS SO I CAN COMPLETE THIS TASK HE GAVE ME. HE MUST HAVE BEEN IMPRESSED BECAUSE HE LOOKED ME UP AND ASKED DIRECTLY INSTEAD OF HAVING SOMEONE ELSE DO IT.

THE KNIVES AND SCISSORS HAVE BEEN DISPERSED THROUGHOUT THE CAMP POPULATION BY BEING OFFERED AS PRIZES FOR VARIOUS TOURNAMENTS AND CONTESTS AND WERE THEMSELVES UNIQUE AND HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER.

I WOULD LIKE TO OFFER A SUGGESTION FOR FUTURE REFERENCE. WE ARE TRYING TO PUT TOGETHER A LIBRARY FOR THE GUYS HERE AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY BOOKS YOU MIGHT BE ABLE TO SEND. THERE IS NO NEED FOR NEW BOOKS AND PAPERBACKS WEIGH LESS SO IF SOME WERE INCLUDED IN YOUR PACKAGES THE RECEPTION WOULD BE GOOD. THERE ARE MEN AND WOMEN SO THE TOPICS COULD BE AS VARIED AS YOU COULD IMAGINE. THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL DO GOOD FOLKS DO AND I LOOK FORWARD TO YOUR COMMUNICATIONS AND FRIENDSHIPS.

BEST REGARDS, JERRY

Mrs. [2jedismom],

I received your package yesterday and shared it with my team. They enjoyed it and we are all really appreciative. Thanks for your thoughtfulness.

Please tell your friends that bandage scissors are useful items to have in a combat zone, and they have numerous uses. Thanks for the last package and the knife. You are most kind.

Simcerely,

I was recently going through some paperwork and discovered your note that you sent me which accompanied the knife that was sent. I had set it aside to say "Thank You," but unfortunately misplaced your note until last week. I apologize for my long delay. Thank you for the wonderful gift of the knife. It sits proudly in my desk and I use it quite frequently. Obviously, every time I pull it out, I remember all of the great Americans of the Hobbit Hole and your overwhelming support while the Renegades were downrange.

I appreciate your support greatly as do the paratrooper that I serve with. Above all, I appreciate your prayers. Believe me, they inspired me and enabled me to "bring God to the soldiers and the soldiers to God." (mission of the Army Chaplain)

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." - Philippians 4:13

God bless you,

CH (CPT) Renegade Chaplain Chaplain, 307th FSB 82d Airborne Division

Before I finished typing this message, one of the paratroopers whom I serve with told me to say "Hello!"
